Founded in 1853
The Zsolnay factory was established in 1853 by Miklós Zsolnay in Pécs, Hungary. Ten years later, his son Vilmos Zsolnay joined the company and became its manager and director. He led the factory to worldwide recognition by demonstrating its innovative products at world fairs and international exhibitions.
It was due to the management of Vilmos Zsolnay, the Hungarian industrialist and entrepreneur, that the company is still celebrated today for its striking designs and innovative use of materials.

The Eozin Era
In 1893 Vilmos Zsolnay introduced Eosin, a rich, iridescent glazing technique. The term, named after the Greek goddess Eos, goddess of dawn, was used to describe this unique finish.
This technique became a trademark of Zsolnay and a favorite of art nouveau artists. The technique is a well-kept secret of the manufacture and its magical appearance has captivated collectors all over the world since it was first presented.
Zsolnay Innovations
Pyrogranit
In 1886 Zsolnay introduced a frost-resisting building material called Pyrogranit. These ornamental ceramics were used on numerous buildings specifically during the Art Nouveau movement.
In Budapest, countless monuments are decorated with Zsolnay ornaments and tiles. A few examples include the Matthias Church, Parliament and the Great Market Hall. The influence of Zsolnay on European architecture can be found on countless buildings.
Restoration Work
Saint Stephen's Hall
It is an honour that with its expertise the Pécs-based Zsolnay Porcelain Manufactory could contribute to the significant, historic project of reconstructing the Saint Stephen's Hall.The talented artists at Zsolnay have great expertise and were well-prepared for the thorough research and the preparatory phase of the project.
In the reconstruction of the fireplace in Saint Stephen’s Hall, Zsolnay relied on the traditional technology used by the manufacture worked over a hundred years ago.
